Weekend Racing Cancelled at Laurel Park
Main Track Undergoing Further Evaluation
BALTIMORE – With further evaluation of the racing surface ongoing, the Maryland Jockey Club has cancelled its remaining programs this weekend at Laurel Park.
Nine races were scheduled for Saturday including a trio of $100,000 stakes, and eight races were scheduled for Sunday at Laurel.
Laurel will remain open during its normal morning training hours for galloping and jogging.
The MJC had cancelled Laurel’s nine-race program minutes prior to Friday’s opener after speaking with its jockeys who had expressed concerns about riding over the main track following overnight snow and afternoon rain.
Saturday’s 6 ½-furlong Willa On the Move for fillies and mares 3 and older and the six-furlong Dave’s Friend and 1 1/8-mile Richard W. Small, each for 3-year-olds and up, will be brought back as extras for Friday, Nov. 29.
Laurel is scheduled to host its traditional Thanksgiving Day program Thursday, Nov. 28 with a special 11:25 a.m. post time.
