TAA to Receive Special Award of Merit at Preakness

BALTIMORE – The Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, which has granted nearly $14 million in grants to accredited Thoroughbred aftercare organizations, will receive the Special Award of Merit Thursday, May 16 at the Alibi Breakfast at Pimlico Race Course.

The Special Award of Merit is given to those who have made a positive impact on the racing industry. Previous recipients have included Jim McKay, D. Wayne Lukas, Dr. Dean Richardson and Edgar Prado, Team American Pharoah, and King Leatherbury.

Byk to Receive Old Hilltop Award at Alibi Breakfast Preakness Week

BALTIMORE – Writer and broadcaster Steve Byk, host of ‘At the Races with Steve Byk’ on SiriusXM, will receive the Old Hilltop Award May 16 at the Alibi Breakfast at Pimlico Race Course.

The Old Hilltop Award is given annually to an individual who covers Thoroughbred racing with excellence and distinction. Previous Old Hilltop recipients include Red Smith, Joe Hirsch, Edwin Pope, Sam McCracken, Jim McKay, Dave Johnson, Scott Wykoff and Keith Mills.

BALTIMORE –Bob Ehalt will receive the David F. Woods Award for excellence in journalism and Steve Heuertz the Jerry Frutkoff Preakness Photography Award, sponsored by Nikon, Thursday, May 16 at the Alibi Breakfast at Pimlico Race Course.

Inaugural Oaklawn Invitational Winner to Get Free Berth in Preakness

BALTIMORE – The Maryland Jockey Club announced today that the winner of the inaugural running of the $300,000 Oaklawn Invitational Saturday, May 4 at Oaklawn Park will receive a free berth in the starting gate for the 144th Preakness Stakes (G1), the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown.

The 1 3/16th mile Preakness, to be run Saturday, May 18 at legendary Pimlico Race Course, will be one of 16 stakes – nine graded – worth $3.8 million that will be run Preakness weekend.

BALTIMORE – The rescheduled Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show presented by Beyond the Wire will take place Sunday, Oct. 7 beginning at 8 a.m. in the infield at legendary Pimlico Race Course.
 
Now in its seventh year, the show was postponed from his original July 7 date due to heavy rains in the weeks leading up to the event.
