Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show Raises $7,000 for Thoroughbred Aftercare
Annual Event in Pimlico Infield Benefits MTHA’s Beyond the Wire Program
BALTIMORE – Nearly $20,000 in purse money was distributed and close to $7,000 was raised to benefit Thoroughbred aftercare at the Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show presented by Beyond the Wire held June 25 in the infield at historic Pimlico Race Course.
Ticket sales and entry fees from the show totaled $6,967, with all proceeds going directly to benefit Beyond the Wire, the thoroughbred aftercare program launched last year by the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsmen’s Association.
Since 2012, the Totally Thoroughbred Horse Show has generated nearly $70,000 to benefit thoroughbred aftercare organizations.
This year’s judging panel was comprised of Barbara Kirchner Magrogan, an MHSA-rated judge of up to 35 events a year; Laurel Park-based thoroughbred trainer Rodney Jenkins, a member of the Show Jumping Hall of Fame and National Show Hunter Hall of Fame; and Show Hunter Hall of Famer Walter ‘Timmy’ Kees.
Among the winners were La la la la, owned and ridden by Kelly Gannon, in the $7,5000 Hillwood Jumper Stakes; and Truckin’ Gold, owned and ridden by Terry West, in the $1,000 Dark Hollow Farm Open Hunter Classic.
Division champions included Jennifer Campbell’s My Name’s Shane, ridden by Nicole Wood, in Open Working Hunter; Betty McCue and Nancy Hale’s Oregon Ridge, ridden by Courtney Somers, in Low Hunter A; and Nothing But Fire, owned and ridden by Terry West, in Low Hunter B.
My Name’s Shane and Jackpot Lady shared the Jockey Club Thoroughbred Incentive Program title with 14 points apiece.
