Sequence Begins with Impressive Debut by Jaxon Traveler
BALTIMORE - There were 26 winning tickets in Friday’s Stronach 5, each worth $5,248.90.
The Stronach 5 featured races from Pimlico Race Course, Gulfstream Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields, a $100,000 guaranteed pool and an industry-low 12-percent takeout.
The Stronach 5 began with Pimlico’s eighth race and an impressive performance by first-time starter and favorite Jaxon Traveler ($4.20). A 2-year-old son of Munnings owned by West Point Thoroughbreds and Marvin Delfiner and trained by Steve Asmussen, Jaxon Traveler won easily by 10 lengths while covering six furlongs 1:10.41.
After Gulfstream’s ninth race produced a $13 winner in Captivant and Santa Anita’s third race was won by Psycho Dar ($14.60), Pimlico’s ninth race, the fourth leg of the sequence, produced a dead heat with Nick Papagiorgio ($3.80) and Cannon’s Roar ($6) hitting the wire at the same time. The sequence concluded with Side Effect ($7.80) winning the third race at Golden Gate Fields.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.
If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.
The Maryland Jockey Club serves as host of the Stronach 5.
