BALTIMORE, 04-25-12---The Maryland Jockey Club today announced it has teamed up with Macy’s for a pair of Preakness fashion shows.
This Saturday, April 28, at the Macy’s Towson Town Center Mall (Cosmetic Mall Entrance on the second floor), there will be a fashion presentation to help showcase what to wear to this year’s 137th Preakness® Stakes on Saturday, May 19. Next Saturday, May 5, at White Marsh Mall is the second annual Tickled Pink! event, with proceeds benefitting the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The show will begin at 1 p.m. in the Center Court. Kis Agency models, DJ Lady Elle and breast cancer survivors will hit the runway in the season’s hottest designs and hats, featuring the color pink. There will be a health fair from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. An all-day Savings Pass good for an extra 15% will apply to most items. Raffle drawings will include tickets to Black-Eyed Susan Day, one of the Show’s designer hats, Macy’s gift cards, Sunglass Hut Susan G. Komen Pink Sunglasses and a Clinique makeover. The Health Fair welcomes screenings, fitness & nutrition tips, cooking demonstrations, zumba dancing music and more.
The People’s Pink Party, the partnership between Pimlico Race Course and Komen Maryland that was launched in 2010 to raise funds and aid awareness and research for breast cancer will return for the third consecutive year to Pimlico on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday, May 18, 2012. In addition to the 88th running of the $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes (G2) for 3-year-old fillies, the day will feature a performance by retired female riders in the Lady Legends For the Cure Race III™ and a jockey challenge between eight of the nation’s top active lady riders. The 13-race program features eight stakes races, including the return of the historic Pimlico Special (G3).
Seventy-five percent of the net funds raised will go to the Komen Maryland Affiliate to use for community outreach programs in Maryland and 25% will be used for life-saving breast cancer research.
“Komen Maryland is proud to partner with the Maryland Jockey Club and Macy’s for the second annual Tickled Pink! Fashion Show to promote Black Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico,” said Robin Prothro, executive director of Komen Maryland. “Third party partnerships like this are our second largest source of revenue, providing us the ability to grant fund nearly $2.2 million to 26 breast cancer programs locally and throughout Maryland in 2011 alone and help women, men and families in our community that have been touched by this disease.”
