MJC Cancels Saturday’s Live Program at Laurel Park
Racing Scheduled to Resume Sunday with New 12:40 Post
Princess Kokachin Favored in Stakes-Quality Allowance
BALTIMORE – A powerful winter storm passing through the Mid-Atlantic region has forced the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Saturday’s live nine-race program at Laurel Park.
According to the National Weather Service, the Baltimore/Washington area and northeastern Maryland were forecast to experience rapidly deteriorating conditions as rain turned to heavy snow at a rate of 1-2 inches per hour, with gusty winds.
Laurel, Pimlico, Rosecroft and the MJC OTB Network will remain open for simulcasting.
Live racing is scheduled to return Sunday to Laurel with a nine-race program starting at the new post time of 12:40 p.m.
Race 8 is a stakes-quality allowance for fillies and mares 4 and up sprinting 5 ½ furlongs that attracted multiple stakes winner Dontletsweetfoolya, making her return to Laurel after a try on the all-weather surface at Turfway Park; 2021 Willa On the Move winner Kaylasaurus, most recently fourth in the Barbara Fritchie (G3) Feb. 19; and Princess Kokachin, the even-money program favorite who upset Hello Beautiful in the 2021 Poliltely.
