BALTIMORE - On April 29, The United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 27 voted to ratify a new labor agreement with the Maryland Jockey Club affecting over 150 unionized employees at the company’s Laurel Park and Pimlico Race Courses. The agreement, which represents Betting Window Tellers, Parking Lot Attendants, Starting Gate Workers, Security Officers, Jockey Valets and others, provides, among other things, improved health benefits and competitive wage increases over the next three years.
“Congratulations to all our members at Maryland Jockey Club on voting overwhelmingly to ratify their new three-year agreement which significantly increased wages, expanded and improved Health and Welfare coverage and increased the number of paid holidays. … We are all proud of what we've accomplished in this new contract," said UFCW Local 27 President Jason Chorpenning.
“The new agreement reflects the good work the UFCW Local 27 employees do on a daily basis to support safe, efficient and successful racing operations,” said Mike Rogers, Acting President and General Manager, Maryland Jockey Club. “I want to thank UFCW Local 27’s leadership team for working so diligently and cooperatively with us to best position Maryland Jockey Club and UFCW Local 27 members for future successes. We look forward to an ongoing positive and productive relationship with UFCW Local 27 and seek to carry the momentum and spirit of partnership gained in these negotiations to our other outstanding labor relations matters.”
