Magee Barn Continues Winning Ways With Two-Win Afternoon
BALTIMORE, 04-13-14---Entering 2012, trainer Kieron Magee had 72 career victories. In the last 27 ½ months, he has visited the winners’ circle 75 times at the major Maryland tracks. During that span, his runners are winning at a 25% clip.
This afternoon at Pimlico Race Course, the 53-year-old saddled two winners. Regal Nurse, who earned her 20th career victory with a dominating performance in the sixth, and Doubleblackdiamond, who took the finale in wire-to-wire fashion by 13 ¾ lengths.
Magee finished in a four-way tie atop the recently completed Laurel Park winter standings and leads all conditioners with seven victories from 17 starters after the first two weeks of the Pimlico spring stand.
“I am thrilled,” Magee said. “The last week at Laurel we didn’t run much because I was looking forward to this meet. This is my home. I couldn’t be happier. The horses are running really well.”
Magee will have one starter Thursday afternoon when live racing continues at Old Hilltop.
