Buzzworthy Creates Saturday Carryovers at Pimlico

BALTIMORE - When Robert Gamber's 70-1 longshot Buzzworthy crossed the finish line first in Pimlico's eighth and final race Friday, it created carryovers in Saturday's Rainbow 6 and Super Hi 5.

First post for Saturday's nine-race program is 1:10 p.m.

No horses were live to take down the Rainbow 6 jackpot heading into Friday’s finale with Buzzworthy ($152.20), pushing the popular multi-race wager’s carryover to $1,583.31. Tickets with five of six winners returned $350.72.

There will also be a carryover of $2,679.80 in the Super Hi-5 for Saturday’s opener.

The 50-cent Pick 5, which offers an industry-low 12 percent takeout, was hit for $23,073.85 on Friday.

The Rainbow 6 carryover jackpot is only paid out when there is a single unique ticket sold with all six winners. On days when there is no unique ticket, 70 percent of that day’s pool goes back to those bettors holding tickets with the most winners while 30 percent is carried over to the jackpot pool.

Saturday’s Rainbow 6 spans Races 4-9. Included in the sequence are a $47,000 optional claiming allowance for females 3 and up in Race 7 featuring stakes winners Brenda’s Way, Lake Sebago and Mom’z Laugh; and a $42,000 allowance for females 3 and up on the turf in Race 8 led by multiple New York-bred stakes winner Freudie Anne, the 8-5 program favorite.

Note: Jockeys Xavier Perez and Jevian Toledo rode two winners apiece Friday. Perez was first with Zipping By ($5) in the fourth race and Summer Frock ($15.80) in the seventh, while Toledo scored in back-to-back races aboard Because He Can ($3) in the fifth and Fastener ($14.80) in the sixth. Both Burford ($26.40) in the second race and Zipping By are trained by Donald Barr.
