BALTIMORE - Homebred filly Luna Belle, a stakes winner to end last year and begin this one, goes after a third straight victory for co-breeder/owner and trainer Hamilton Smith in Saturday’s $100,000 Wide Country.

The 29th renewal of the $100,000 Wide Country for 3-year-old fillies and the 27th running of the one-mile Miracle Wood for 3-year-olds and are among six stakes, two graded, worth $900,000 in purses on a 10-race program.

BALTIMORE – There were 12 winning tickets in Friday’s Stronach 5, each worth $11,033.90.

The Stronach 5 featured a low 12-percent takeout and races from Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields.

The popular wager started with an even-money shot in Alecka Star returning from a 4 ½-month layoff to win Gulfstream’s eighth race. That performance was followed by Mocephus and jockey Victor Carrasco winning Laurel’s ninth race at 3-1.

The popular wager, which continues to produce a strong return on investment, will begin at 4:11 ET and end approximately 49 minutes later and feature races from Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park and Golden Gate Fields along with a low 12-percent takeout.

Laurel Park Cancels Saturday’s Live Nine-Race Program

Eight-Race Card Scheduled for Sunday Starting at 12:25 P.M.

BALTIMORE – Lingering effects from winter storm Landon have forced the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Saturday’s live nine-race card at Laurel Park.

In addition to the winter storm, which passed through the Mid-Atlantic region Thursday and Friday, freezing temperatures and wind chill were contributing factors to the cancellation.

Laurel’s planned partial ARC simulcast presentation from San Isidro has also been cancelled.
