Pair of Berths at Stake This Weekend for Preakness 150

Laurel’s Federico Tesio, Oaklawn’s Bathhouse Row Saturday

BALTIMORE – Nine Triple Crown-nominated horses will be vying this weekend for an automatic berth in the 150th Preakness Stakes (G1), Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, May 17 at Pimlico Race Course.

Ten 3-year-olds are entered in Saturday’s 44th running of the $150,000 Federico Tesio at Laurel Park, a 1 1/8-mile test that includes five Triple Crown nominees – Surfside Moon, Studlydoright, Sacred Thunder, Pay Billy and Just a Fair Shake.

Gosger, Bracket Buster possible for Preakness after 1-2 Lexington Finish

BALTIMORE — Gosger and Bracket Buster both are possible for the 150th Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico after finishing 1-2 in Saturday’s $400,000 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes (G3) at Keeneland.

While not committing to the 1 3/16-mile Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, Gosger trainer Brendan Walsh and Bracket Buster trainer Vicki Oliver both said after the race that their colts earned consideration for the May 17 Preakness at Pimlico Race Course.

BALTIMORE – Headlined by the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes (G1), Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, a total of 16 stakes, eight graded, worth $4.3 million in purses will be contested Friday, May 16 and Saturday, May 17 at historic Pimlico Race Course.

First run in 1873, the Preakness is the second oldest of the Triple Crown races, predating the Kentucky Derby (G1) by two years. The inaugural Belmont Stakes (G1) was held in 1867.
