BALTIMORE, MD – The Maryland Jockey Club’s racing office confirmed Sunday morning that Market King, trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, will be entered in Saturday’s 144th Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course. The addition of Market King pushes the expected field to 12 horses, the largest field since 14 competed in 2011.

LAUREL, MD – Friday’s Stronach 5 became the Stronach 4 when heavy rains forced the cancellation of four races at Pimlico Race Course, including the ninth race and second leg of the national pick five.

After Smoovie won the sixth race at Santa Anita Park and the final leg of the Stronach 5, 41 bettors would each win $2,685.60.

BALTIMORE – Pimlico Race Course cancelled its Friday card after Race 5 due to heavy rains that swept through the area.

“There was a lot of rain in a very short period of time and our priority is always the safety of our human and equine athletes as well as our patrons,” said Maryland Jockey Club President and General Manager Sal Sinatra. “We felt it was in the best interest of everyone to cancel the remainder of the program.”
