Laurel Park to Host Breeders’ Cup Weekend Watch Party

BALTIMORE– In addition to full live race programs, Laurel Park will host a Breeders’ Cup watch party Friday and Saturday for the 41st World Championships from Del Mar.

The first five of 14 Breeders’ Cup races come Friday with Races 6-10 from Del Mar, with a Race 6 post time of 5:45 p.m. Eastern. All five races Friday are restricted to 2-year-olds, highlighted by the $2 million Juvenile (G1) with a scheduled post of 7:45 p.m. Eastern.

On Friday Laurel will offer advance wagering on Del Mar’s entire 12-race Saturday program that begins at 1:05 p.m. Eastern.

Nine Breeders’ Cup races are on tap Saturday starting with the $1 million Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) in Race 4 with a post time of 3 p.m. Eastern. The $7 million Classic (G1) is carded as Race 8 with a post time of 5:41 p.m. Eastern.

Concluding Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup program in Race 12 (8:45 p.m. Eastern) is the $1 million Dirt Mile (G1) featuring Maryland-bred multiple graded-stakes winner Post Time. Owned by Hillwood Stable’s Ellen Charles, Post Time is trained by Laurel-based Brittany Russell and will be ridden by her husband, champion jockey Sheldon Russell, from Post 8 in a full field of 14. They are rated at 12-1 on the morning line.

Laurel will open its doors at 11 a.m. with nine live races Friday and 10:45 a.m. with 11 live races Saturday. Post time is 12:25 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

In addition to the Breeders’ Cup wagering menu, Laurel will offer three two-day doubles from Del Mar:

  • The $2 million Juvenile Fillies (G1), Race 7 Friday, and $2 million Distaff (G1), Race 6 Saturday;
  • The $2 million Juvenile (G1), Race 9 Friday, and $7 million Classic (G1), Race 8 Saturday;
  • The $1 million Juvenile Turf (G1), Race 10 Friday, and the $5 million Turf (G1), Race 7 Saturday.

Laurel’s renovated sports bar, located on the second-floor clubhouse, will be open for food, drinks and wagering Friday and Saturday.
